The trial of Chicago rapper Lil Durk, related to a “murder-for-hire” case, has reportedly been moved to October this year.
Sources say he was expected in court this month, but prosecutors and the musician’s legal team have agreed to start the hearing later in October this year to enable them to prepare adequately.
The Jealous composer is accused of arranging a “murder-for-hire” plot in 2022, targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo in the Los Angeles area.
According to reports, the evidence against Lil Durk includes 230 gigabytes of audio and videos that the prosecution and defense lawyers must filter through before the trial.
Officials said the evidence was “so unusual and so complex that it is unreasonable to expect adequate preparation for pretrial proceedings or for the trial within the Speedy Trial Act time limits.”
Apart from the murder-for-hire, Durk is also charged with conspiracy and using a firearm in a violent crime. The 2022 shooting reportedly killed Quando’s cousin Lil Pub and was allegedly a retaliation for the murder of an associate of Durk.
Authorities had alleged that Durk attempted to flee the country shortly before he was arrested in October 2024. However, following recent developments, he would be in custody in Los Angeles until his trial in October.
In December, Durk was reported to have broken jail rules while held at a California detention center. He repeatedly violated phone policies at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles.
Officials said that despite being instructed not to engage in three-way calls, he misused the phone system to make unauthorized calls, raising further concerns about his conduct behind bars.
Prosecutors also presented evidence connecting Durk to the killing of Stephon Mack, a suspected Chicago gang leader. That case is separate from the ongoing trial for his murder-for-hire charges.
According to related court documents, Durk was believed to have funded the January 2022 shooting death of Mack, allegedly seeking revenge for the 2021 murder of his brother, Dontay “DThang” Banks.
