Chicago rapper Lil Durk, whose legal name is Durk Banks, has been arrested in Broward County, Florida, under charges related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot aimed at rapper Quando Rondo.
Durk’s arrest stems from his alleged involvement in orchestrating an attack meant to avenge the death of close friend and fellow rapper King Von, who was killed in a confrontation with Rondo’s crew in 2020.
According to CNN, Durk faces a serious charge of murder-for-hire and is being held without bond in Broward County Jail while awaiting transfer to the custody of U.S. Marshals.
Five other men, all suspected members of Durk’s OTF (Only the Family) collective, have also been detained in connection with the case. Prosecutors claim these men were involved in the August 2022 killing of Quando Rondo’s cousin, Saviay’a ‘Lul Pab’ Robinson, during an alleged assassination attempt on Rondo himself.
The indictment, recently unsealed in the U.S. Central District Court of California, implicates five men: Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. The document alleges they conspired to kill Quando Rondo in Los Angeles, although their attempt instead led to Robinson’s death when he accompanied Rondo at a Beverly Hills gas station.
Authorities allege that OTF funds, allegedly routed through label-associated credit cards, were used to cover travel and logistical expenses, including flights and rental cars, as part of this plot. Prosecutors believe that unnamed individuals offered lucrative incentives to those willing to execute the plan, though Lil Durk’s name does not appear directly in the indictment.
This attempted attack on Rondo is thought to be rooted in the violent fallout following King Von’s death, a tragedy that spurred an ongoing feud between Lil Durk’s circle and Rondo, who is signed under NBA YoungBoy’s label. The rift has also led to increased hostilities between Durk and YoungBoy, whose labels have been embroiled in a tense rivalry ever since.
The news comes just weeks after Lil Durk was implicated in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the mother of slain Chicago rapper FBG Duck. The lawsuit accuses both Durk and the late King Von of placing a bounty on FBG Duck’s life, adding to a chain of allegations portraying a pattern of violence-driven retaliation.
