It seems most young Black female stars of Hollywood are gunning towards being cast as Storm in the X-Men movie franchise.

Not too long ago, Cynthia Erivo opened up about how she wished to play Storm in the franchise.

Storm, an Omega-level mutant with the power to control the weather, among other abilities, was created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum.

The character first debuted in Marvel Comics in 1975’s Giant-Size X-Men #1 and has since been instrumental in countless X-Men and Marvel stories.

The latest person to show interest in appearing as the weather-controlling mutant Storm is SZA.

Recently, Solána Imani Rowe, better known as SZA, starred in her debut movie project, dubbed One of Them Days, starring alongside Keke Palmer in the comedy movie directed by Lawrence Lamont.

Now, the singer is hoping she might get a chance to join the X-Men.

SZA’s interest is in playing the X-Men’s Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm. She revealed this when she appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday, March 21, 2025.

SZA stated:

“I would love to be a superhero.”

She said that Silver Surfer is one of her favorite characters, though she’s not interested in playing him because the character “is a dude.”

“She comes from this whole other place where it’s the jungle,” she said. “So, I think that would be so gnarly if I could be a Storm origin story… I love to bring the range.”

It is noteworthy that no one has been cast as Storm by Marvel Studios yet, and it’s unclear when the character will make her MCU debut again.

Storm was played by Halle Berry in 2000’s X-Men, 2003’s X2, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, and 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Alexandra Shipp portrayed a younger version of the character in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Shipp’s Storm then briefly reappeared in 2018’s Deadpool 2 and 2019’s Dark Phoenix.
