Yak Gotti, one of the final defendants in the high-profile YSL trial alongside Young Thug, was stabbed over the weekend while incarcerated. His legal representative confirmed the incident, bringing fresh attention to the intense case.
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s office, Gotti, whose real name is Deamonte Kendrick, was involved in an altercation with another inmate. The confrontation reportedly resulted in minor injuries caused by a sharp object. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the instigator.
The incident occurs as the jury deliberates the fates of Gotti and Shannon Stillwell, the last two defendants of the original 28 men arrested in May 2022. Both face serious charges, including those related to gang activity, murder, drugs, and firearms.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Gotti experienced a partial legal victory last month when three charges involving drug possession and distribution were dropped due to insufficient evidence. However, the judge denied dismissals on the remaining charges, including a significant RICO violation.
The YSL trial has gripped public attention due to its complex legal proceedings and the involvement of prominent figures from the hip-hop world. Several co-defendants, including Young Thug, have already taken plea deals.
Thug’s agreement saw him plead nolo contendere to racketeering and gang leadership charges, resulting in his release with a lengthy probation period.
Other notable outcomes include plea deals for Rodalius Ryan, known as Lil Rod, and Marquavius Huey, also known as Qua. Ryan’s agreement allowed for a commuted sentence while appealing a separate murder conviction. Huey faced a potential life sentence but ultimately received a reduced term, serving nine years instead of the original 25.
