Queen Latifah is and has been a trailblazer for female MCee in every way possible. The actress born Dana Elaine Owens, began her career beatboxing for the hip-hop group Ladies Fresh.

She was among the first artists in the Flavor Unit, a group of DJs and emcees from New Jersey and New York City.

She made her album debut in 1989 at the age of 19. It was titled All Hail the Queen.

She garnered additional recognition from 1993 to 1998 as the star of the hit Fox sitcom “Living Single,” then transitioned into an extremely successful movie career.

Her provocative statement that hip-hop prioritized “Ladies First” caused an explosion in the scene.

Given all of her achievements, it was only a matter of time until her life was adapted into a motion picture by Hollywood.

Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere, her partner at Flavor Unit Entertainment, will thus be producing a biography that delves into the life and career of the Grammy Award-winning rapper.

This is the first of a planned series of biopics about significant hip-hop musicians, produced in association with Jesse Collins Entertainment and Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios.

Queen Latifah and Compere stated in a statement announcing the collaboration and the project that hip hop has impacted each and every one of us since we entered this industry together.

“Hip-hop has had a lasting influence on culture and society at large, surpassing the boundaries of music.

It is a dream to be able to work together with friends and coworkers who are able to narrate these stories that serve as the backdrop for our lives in addition to having a common understanding.

When you bring talented people and teams together, you can create something truly special,” Will Smith added.

“I’m thrilled to work alongside Flavor Unit, Jesse Collins Entertainment, and HarbourView to highlight the incredible stories of some of our favorite artists and icons. There’s no better story to start with than the one of Queen Latifah, an undisputed legend who has both entertained and inspired us for so many years.”
