Actor and musician, Will Smith, was reportedly crushing on Pepa, one-half of the Salt-N-Pepa group in the late 1980s.
The pair reportedly went on a date and he was left terrified over the possible outcomes.
As part of an appearance on the “Class of ‘88” podcast, the rapper and actor reflected on being smitten with Sandra “Pepa” Denton back in the day.
During the episode, which was released, he described the “one and only date” they went on together and how “terrified” he was during the experience.
According to him, he always had a thing for her, but at several points in time, she was dating someone else. They, therefore, decided to go on a date at a point when she was not in a relationship. He planned to make a move at a point when they were both in Los Angeles.
He explained that he reasoned he had to act right to ensure he was guaranteed a second date.
Smith revealed that Pepa was special to him, and he was desperate to impress her, and as such, he rented a white Mercedes convertible. He planned to take her around Hollywood Hills, drive up Mulholland, and then watch the sunset.
Pepa, who was part of the conversation, then chipped in, saying she recalls some memorable parts of the date. She explained that she was out with Smith, and they saw a homeless person, who was given $100 by Smith. She thought of this gesture as nice, as they drove on towards the Hollywood sign.
Worried about a possible rejection, Smith noted that he was desperate to win her over, and as such did everything possible to create a good impression.
In other news, Smith opened up about his personal experiences and evolving relationship with the spotlight, especially in the aftermath of the challenges that came up a few years ago.
This was during an appearance at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, December 2, 2023.
In a clip shared by Deadline, the veteran actor reflected on fame, stating, “Fame is a unique monster…I’ve had to be really careful.”
He noted that it is dangerous to allow fame to overly affect you, as the more you get excited by good comments, you may equally be hurt by the bad ones.
