Rapper Eve was a young stripper before she became a platinum-selling hip-hop artist, an actress, and a well-known talk show host.
Eve is being honest and providing readers with a comprehensive look at her life prior to fame in her most recent memoir.
The Philadelphia rapper reflected on her beginnings in an interview on The Morning Show about her recently dropped memoir, Who’s That Girl?
Speaking to the chapter titled “The Laziest Stripper.”
She stated: “It was two months, and I wasn’t that great,” she explained, adding that she was focused on her music. “But I was great at rapping, though. So, I would get tipped for rapping.”
She continued to explain how men would approach her to inquire about lap dances, and she would respond with a different idea.
“I’m like, ‘Let me rap for you. If you think I’m wack, I’ll give you a lap dance for free.’ And most of the time I wasn’t… guys would be like, ‘Shorty, you crazy.’”
Luckily, her career as a stripper was short-lived, as her music career took off after she was discovered by rapper Ma$e, who was then signed to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ label in just two months.
The 45-year-old expanded on the fateful moment in her life when she met Ma$e and was able to completely switch from dance to rapping after he counseled her to concentrate on her skills during a recent book tour interview with PEOPLE Magazine.
“When MA$E became a pastor, I was like, ‘Yeah, that makes sense,’” she detailed. “He was my prophet that day. I needed that extra push.”
The previously mentioned book Who’s That Girl? goes into detail about her late adolescent years spent dancing, her beginnings in the industry, life lessons learned, and more.
