Afrobeats Queen Tiwa Savage says her first feature movie, titled Water and Gari will be released on May 10, 2024.

On Thursday, she posted a colourful cover of the film on X (Twitter) and asked followers to save the date. According to the latest post, the movie will be available on Prime Video.

The singer did not mention a release date when she first announced that she was working on the project early in January but said it would be shown in over 240 countries worldwide.

The Eminado hitmaker previously stated that she spent two years completing the project.

“This has been over two years in the making and I must say this is probably one of the most adventurous, fulfilling things I’ve done.

“I feel blessed and honored to not only be making my debut as a lead actor, but to have also executively produced this film. I honestly can’t wait to take you guys along with me on this next phase of my life and art…I’m just getting started,” she indicated in a Facebook post in January this year.

The film has the title of her second extended play, (EP) Water & Garri, released in August 2021, which blends Afrobeat with soulful R&B.

Tiwa Savage plays the lead role in the film shot in Cape Coast, Ghana, which features a number of supporting actors and is directed by Meji Alabi. The film tells the story of a US-based fashion designer who returns home to confront her past guilt.

In March 2022, she announced the ‘Water & Garri North American Tour’ in support of the EP.  The tour commenced in Brooklyn, New York, on May 15, 2022, and ended in Toronto, on June 19, 2022.

The celebrated performer has made significant contributions to African music and continues to churn out hit songs that resonate well with her fans. She has recently collaborated with singer Simi on a yet-to-be-released single called Men are Crazy.

At 43, she has been impressed with her impact on the growth of the music industry, describing her input as “blessing” when she spoke to Billboard in October.
