Viola Davis, the celebrated actress, producer, and EGOT winner, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.

The honor, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the entertainment world, will be presented during the 82nd annual Golden Globes ceremony.

The event will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

Viola Davis joins prestigious list

Viola Davis will join an elite group of past DeMille Award honorees, including Jodie Foster, Meryl Streep, and Jane Fonda. She will also become the sixth Black performer to receive the award, following icons such as Sidney Poitier, Morgan Freeman, and Oprah Winfrey.

The Golden Globes will also honor a yet-to-be-announced recipient of the Carol Burnett Award, which celebrates excellence in television. Davis and the Burnett Award honoree will be recognized at a special gala dinner on Friday, January 3, marking the first time the Golden Globes will host a dedicated event for these honorary awards.

Davis, who was recently honored by Rhode Island University, achieved EGOT status in 2023 after winning a Grammy for her audiobook Finding Me. Her career accolades include an Oscar for Fences, an Emmy for How to Get Away With Murder, and two Tony Awards for her performances in King Hedley II and Fences. She also previously won a Golden Globe for her role in Fences.

The Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards, known as ‘Hollywood’s Party of the Year,’ kick off the awards season by celebrating achievements in both film and television. This year’s ceremony will be hosted for the first time by comedian Nikki Glaser, who recently earned her first Emmy nomination and Grammy nod for her HBO comedy special Someday You’ll Die.

Produced by Dick Clark Productions and helmed by veteran showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, the ceremony promises a star-studded night. Nominations for the 82nd Golden Globes will be announced on December 9, 2024.
