When Vivica A. Fox was asked about her opinion about Taraji P. Henson’s complaints about women of color receiving unequal pay in Hollywood, she responded that she couldn’t relate to the latter’s employment struggles.
Vivica A. Fox noted: “To each [of] his own. It makes me very happy and blessed. You know, I didn’t have that experience. But it’s crucial to get your point across. I am fully aware of that. And I’m proud of my girls for being supportive of one another. But I’m good.”
The Soul Food actress was approached by an online news reporter for TMZ while she was in New York City signing autographs for fans.
Fox was asked if it was “the perfect time” to have a conversation about Hollywood’s treatment of Black actresses. The reporter then brought up Henson and Mo’Nique, who have spoken about the Hollywood unequal pay and have been allegedly overlooked after winning an Oscar.
The video has generated over 23,933 likes in 1 day with tons of comments including some reactions from well-known figures such as Gabrielle Union who liked a post on Twitter throwing shade at Vivica A. Fox following her recent response to Taraji’s comments.
Vivica A. Fox last starred with Taraji P. Henson in the musical drama Empire. She was well-known for her roles in major motion pictures in the 1990s and early 2000s, such as Independence Day, Soul Food, and Set It Off.
Taraji P. Henson’s remarks regarding Hollywood’s unequal pay and also the poor working conditions during the production of The Color Purple have been all over the news for the past month.
She angrily explained that she was being paid less than her worth and chastised the crew for expecting cast members to drive themselves to set in rental cars, though she did not say if that was the case for The Color Purple.
Insofar as Henson has refuted Oprah Winfrey’s involvement in the purported misconduct that the cast endured, so has costar Danielle Brooks, who referenced Henson and Winfrey as defenders when the cast wasn’t initially provided with food or dressing rooms.
