It was all love when twenty students from Pittsburgh’s Faison and Westinghouse academies had the chance of a lifetime to perform alongside rapper superstar, Lil Durk, at the PPG Paints Arena.
With enthusiasm and confidence, the students took to the stage and captivated the audience with their rendition of the artiste’s hit song, All My Life.
The performance was the result of an unexpected email received by Dr. Kimberly Price, the Coordinator of Performing Arts for the school district.
The surprise invitation created a platform for the young performers, who exhibited their talents to the admiration of all present.
The Chicago rapper, who was in town as part of the It’s All A Blur tour alongside Drake and J. Cole, was visibly impressed by the students’ energy and passion for music. As a show of appreciation for their craft, he gifted them $100 each.
According to Dr. Price, this event became a reality when “two schools brought 20 students from different age groups – from high school, sixth and fifth grades.
Teachers gave up their weekends to be there for the kids. To have a team that came together as they did from our communications department to our teachers who gave up half of a day on a Saturday, people want our kids to do well, and our kids do,” said Dr. Price.
Showering praises on Lil Durk, Dr. Price noted that the musician was gracious with the students as he gave high fives and fist bumps. In addition, he decided to stand on one side so that the performers could get the spotlight he believed they deserved after their performance.
The Coordinator noted that the children were so excited that they shed tears, and without doubt, it was an experience they may not forget anytime soon.
