Jayson Tatum has signed a $315 million, five-year supermax contract with the Boston Celtics, according to the NBA.

Tatum’s new contract represents the highest total compensation for an NBA player in history, and he just won an NBA Championship.

You would think the five-time All-Star would have grand plans for how to spend all of that money.

However, Jayson Tatum will not touch any of it, according to his mother, Brandy Cole.

“I’m the one that processes all the wires and gets receipts and then ensures everything,” Cole stated in an interview.

It seems that Tatum and his mother agreed such that he never lived off his salary and only received sponsorships and endorsements.

“We had a deal before I got drafted that I couldn’t spend the money I make from the Celtics and that we have to live off endorsements.”

Tatum said in an In Depth with Graham Bensinger interview.

According to Tatum, both his mother and his accountant agreed on this deal and haven’t looked back since.

Outside of his previous and current contracts with the Celtics, the power forward is said to have made close to $13 million, which the former Duke University star claims is more than enough for him to live on.

With endorsement deals with Jordan, Gatorade, NBA 2K, and Subway, it’s evident that Tatum is doing well.

According to his mom, Tatum, like any athlete, enjoys spending money and living his best life.

The difference between him and other players, Cole says, is that her son has a “different level of appreciation” for his wealth.

The 26-year-old credits his mother for most of his financial acumen, but Cole asserts that her son’s drive to outperform his upbringing is what drives him most.

She stated, “I believe that, for the most part, we’re not all that different from living paycheck to paycheck, and he knows what he never wants to go back to.”

With his new deal, Tatum surpasses the previous mark set by his teammate Jaylen Brown.

By the time Tatum leaves the league, he might be worth a billion dollars if he keeps going in this direction.
