R&B superstar Usher Raymond says he will dedicate his upcoming show in Las Vegas to black musicians who have held the forte in the music industry throughout the years.
He said it was important to honor friends and mentors who had been supportive in his career as he prepared to mount the stage next Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The Same Girl crooner will perform during the Super Bowl Halftime Show when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
“I didn’t start where I am now, and I didn’t get there by myself. So, everybody that has been a part of it, I’m carrying them with me,” he said.
“All of my fans, my loved ones, the people who may have felt like they have been forgotten, they haven’t. I’m carrying you right with me when I walk on that stage that night,” he said in an interview with Good Morning America on Friday.
The performance will come days after he launches his ninth studio album, Coming Home. The singer recently put out a track list for the album, which features top talents like Burna Boy, H.E.R, 21 Savage and many others.
On Friday, he released the official video for Ruin, one of the songs off the album, featuring Nigerian singer and producer, Pheelz. The video had generated nearly one million views in barely 24 hours.
Apart from Ruin, The album has songs like Kissing Strangers, Keep on Dancing, On The Side, I Am The Party, Luckiest Man, and many others.
The 45-year-old said he had put his “heart and time” into making the album, which felt like the “next chapter” of his life. Ruin has been selected by some of Usher’s followers as one of their favourites on the compilation.
With a recent commitment to honor his predecessor in the music industry, fans would be looking forward to how the La Vegas show turns out.
