Tyra Banks: This Why The Supermodel Moved To Australia With Her Family

Supermodel and businesswoman Tyra Banks has explained the motive for moving to Sydney, Australia, with her partner and nine-year-old son.

Appearing on the podcast Today with Jenna & Friends on April 14, said the relocation, together with her partner, Louis Bélanger-Martin, and son, York Banks Asla, was to enable her to grow her ice cream company.

“So I have this ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream…I’ve been going to Australia a lot because we were making a lot of our ice cream there in this big facility, doing our recipes.

“I just fell in love with it. Every time I went back, and went back … and the three countries that eat the most ice cream: America, New Zealand, and Australia.

“So I was like, ‘I’m happy here and they love to eat some ice cream, so, are we going to do this family?’ And we did,” she said.

Touching on other aspects of her life, the 51-year-old said she was in the process of opening a 3,000-square-foot flagship store for SMiZE and Dream in Sydney.

In January this year, Tyra Banks revealed that her home was destroyed in the Los Angeles fires. On Monday, Jan. 20, she appeared on the Australian breakfast show Sunrise, where she was asked about the devastation.

When asked if she knew anyone who had lost their home, she stated: “I’m one of them…I lost my house.

“I haven’t really talked about it but, yeah…I just didn’t want to pull a lot of attention to me, I feel that there’s a lot of people that need that attention, so I haven’t really talked about it, but I can’t sit here and not tell the truth, so yeah we lost our house,” she stated.

The television personality revealed that she and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, were at a friend’s house in Australia when they found out that their home had been destroyed.

“We were celebrating and just having fun. I kept checking my phone, not for my house, but just for friends and family,” she said. “I was just making sure they were evacuating and everything.”

Though the property was destroyed, the American Next Top Model Icon said a lot of their souvenirs were with them in Australia or New York. At the time, she said some family and friends were okay, but some were not doing “so great.”
