After making Billboard history, South African singer and songwriter Tyla continues to make waves with her hit single, Water.

The musician and dancer has delivered her first-ever live performance on a global stage. She appeared on the Swedish talk show Bianca, hosted by the esteemed Bianca Ingrosso Wahlgren.

Tyla captivated her audience with her live performance of the chart-topping hit song. In a video circulating on X, the 21-year-old delivered an outstanding performance getting cheers from the crowd.

Tyla’s Water has been a monumental success.

Water was birthed out of a mixture of genres, including Afrobeats, pop, R&B, and South Africa’s style of electronic dance music which has come to be known and accepted as Amapiano. It has been a massive success since its release in July 2023 as part of her upcoming debut extended play.

The song first set off a viral TikTok dance challenge before entering the top 10 charts in New Zealand and the Netherlands. It also topped the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart.

Water makes Billboard history for Tyla and South Africa

Aside from its European chart success, Water also made its grand debut at an impressive number 67 on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 chart, a remarkable achievement that only a handful of African musicians have reached.

Tyla’s remarkable feat has etched her name in the history books as the youngest South African artiste to secure a spot on the coveted Billboard Hot 100. This achievement is especially noteworthy as it marks the first time since the legendary Hugh Masekela’s “Grazing in the Grass” in 1968 that a South African musician has graced this esteemed chart.

The live performance on the Bianca Talk Show was a testament to Tyla’s extraordinary talent and artistry. The singer mesmerized the audience with her soulful rendition of Water. Her emotive performance impressed viewers around the world, cementing her status as a global music sensation.

Tyla, whose full name is Tyla Laura Seethal, was born and raised in the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. She discovered her passion for music at a very young age. Her love for singing and creating melodies was nurtured in the heart of South Africa’s diverse music scene. She signed to Epic Records in 2021 after achieving domestic success with her debut single, Getting Late featuring Kooldrink.
