Grammy-winning singer Tyla has reacted to recent speculation about her relationship status, clarifying that she is not dating Chris Brown.

Rumors emerged after Tyla and Chris Brown were photographed together at her birthday party on January 30. Their close posing sparked questions if they were romantically involved.

However, Tyla shut down the dating rumors, asserting her single status while celebrating her first Grammy win for Best African Music Performance.

“Anyone I’m seen with, I’m dating that person. I don’t know why, but I’m very single,” Tyla told Jason Lee on the Grammys red carpet on Sunday.

Tyla and Chris Brown’s close working relationship

Though not dating, Tyla has worked professionally with Brown in the past. She opened for him on tour in Europe in 2023, calling it great performance bootcamp experience.

Some fans expressed concern over the South African’s potentially dating Brown given his history of domestic violence. But the singer made clear she is not in a relationship with him or anyone right now.

While celebrating her music success, Tyla definitively denied dating speculation. The 22-year-old is focused on her rising career, not romantic rumors with her veteran music colleague.

Grammys win delight

Meanwhile, Tyla has described her first Grammy Award as an honour and is excited about the recognition African music continues to receive worldwide.

After topping many charts and setting new records since its premiere last year, her ubiquitous Water, single pulled another magic, winning the first-ever African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Tyla beat competition from Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, and Ayra Starr, who were all in the same category. Speaking backstage after picking up her first golden gramophone, the 22-year-old said the award meant so much to her.
