Travis Scott has once again etched his name into music history as his decade-old mixtape Days Before Rodeo climbs to the top of the Billboard 200.
Originally released in 2014, the project recently saw a remarkable resurgence, securing the number one spot, thanks in large part to vinyl sales.
Days Before Rodeo initially debuted at number two with over 360,000 equivalent units. However, after slipping down to 106 on the chart, the mixtape experienced an extraordinary comeback in its fourth week. Billboard reported that the project earned 156,000 equivalent units, with an impressive 149,000 sales from vinyl, exclusively sold through the rapper’s website.
This achievement marks a historic milestone for the rapper, with Days Before Rodeo boasting the biggest ever sales week for a rap album on vinyl. It’s also the sixth largest across all genres since Billboard started tracking sales in 1991.
Travis Scott is no stranger to breaking records. Prior to this, he held the record for the largest vinyl sales week within Hip Hop with his 2023 album Utopia, which sold 93,000 copies. Now, Days Before Rodeo has become Scott’s fourth project to claim the top spot on the Billboard 200.
While the mixtape’s journey to number one is a victory, it hasn’t been without controversy. When Days Before Rodeo debuted at number two, Travis Scott questioned Billboard’s data, claiming it was inaccurate. His team, Cactus Jack Records, sent a letter to Billboard accusing them of favoring sales from independent stores, but the publication stood by their initial rankings.
Beyond his success on the charts, Scott has achieved another milestone by surpassing Kanye West to become the third most-streamed rapper globally, as reported by RapTV. With 49 billion streams on Spotify, Scott trails only Eminem, with 51 billion, and Drake, who leads with a staggering 103 billion streams.
