Travis Scott’s recent move to release multiple bonus editions of his Days Before Rodeo mixtape has stirred up tension with pop star Sabrina Carpenter, as both artists battle for the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
On August 30, 2024, Scott unveiled an array of new versions of his re-released mixtape. The first of these, Days Before Rodeo – Live from Atlanta: Chopped & Screwed – Vault 1 & 2, includes previously unreleased snippets from the mixtape’s recording sessions and Scott’s recent anniversary performance in Atlanta. In addition, Scott launched three deluxe versions of the mixtape, each featuring two new tracks and available exclusively on his website.
Carpenter, who is in a close race with Scott for the number one position, did not overlook his latest strategy. On X (formerly Twitter), she subtly referenced Scott’s previous competition with Nicki Minaj, hinting at Scott’s past controversies related to chart tactics.
The current chart battle is heating up, with midweek figures showing Carpenter’s debut album, Sweet N’ Sour, moving over 300,000 equivalent units. In contrast, Scott’s re-released mixtape was initially reported to have sold around 217,000 units, though this gap is expected to narrow due to Scott’s strong streaming presence.
Scott’s Days Before Rodeo is poised to become one of the top-selling hip-hop releases of 2024. If the mixtape continues to gain momentum, it could even surpass Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady for the biggest first-week sales of any rap album this year.
