Rapper Travis Scott has once again managed to avoid trial in connection with the deadly Astroworld Festival tragedy of 2021.
Scott, along with concert partner Live Nation, settled nearly 100 personal injury lawsuits just days before the trial was set to begin in Houston.
According to a report from Texas Law Book on Monday, October 21, the settlements were reached with key plaintiffs Angel Dominguez and Elizabeth Martinez, who represented a larger group of victims injured at the festival.
Dominguez and Martinez served as bellwether plaintiffs, meaning their cases were chosen to represent a broader group of individuals with similar claims. By reaching a settlement with them, Scott and Live Nation effectively resolved most personal injury claims related to the event. However, the details of the settlement remain undisclosed.
The settlement comes shortly after the Texas Supreme Court rejected Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino’s attempt to avoid testifying in the case. Rapino had been scheduled to be deposed as part of the proceedings before the settlements were finalized.
Although most lawsuits have been resolved, one more bellwether case remains open. The plaintiff, Henry Nguyen, will have his trial rescheduled for a later date.
This wave of settlements followed a major development in May when Scott settled the last remaining wrongful death lawsuit against him. The case was brought by the family of nine-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest of the ten victims who tragically lost their lives during the crowd surge at the Astroworld Festival. Blount’s family expressed their ongoing grief and commitment to healing after the loss of their son.
The Astroworld Festival incident, which resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, led to intense legal battles for Scott and the event organizers.
