Tyler Perry has released an official trailer for his latest film, The Six Triple Eight, set to premiere on Netflix on December 20.
Officials say the production honors an all-black, all-female Women’s Army Corps unit deployed overseas during World War II.
It was staged to reflect the battalion’s “extraordinary mission” of clearing a massive three-year backlog of mail for American troops in just 90 days.
Kerry Washington leads the cast as “Captain Charity Adams.” Other actresses in supporting roles include Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Susan Sarandon, and Dean Norris.
According to producers, The Six Triple Eight aims to highlight the untold contributions of the trailblazing women and offer a glimpse into their determination and resilience amidst the harsh realities of war and discrimination.
Tyler Perry’s inspiration for the film is said to have emerged from a meeting with Lena Derriecott King, one of the last surviving members of the all-female Army Squad called the “6888th.”
His latest project, Beauty In Black, went live on October 24 and attracted top stars to the grand premiere held at the Atlanta iPic Theater.
“This town, this city, this state has been good to me, to us at Tyler Perry Studios, to the film industry, so I’m grateful that you all are here to watch the two first episodes that are going to be available on Netflix on October 24,” Tyler Perry said at the screening.
“…This is me writing a show that I just wanted to let go and let crazy people live in my head and tell the story.
“This is about entertainment, this is about suspending yourself from our day-to-day lives and looking into some crazy people’s lives so we don’t have to deal with our own selves every day,” he said about Beauty in Black.
The project was rated as another top production, supporting Tyler Perry’s existing projects like A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, and Mea Culpa.
