The Beyhive Up In Arms As Beyoncé Gets Zero CMAs Nominations Despite Cowboy Carter Trend

The 2024 Country Music Awards nomination list was just unveiled, and the organization is already under criticism because Beyoncé was left out despite releasing her highly regarded album with a country theme this year, Cowboy Carter.

On Monday, September 9, the Country Music Awards unveiled their list of nominees, with Morgan Wallen leading the pack and Beyoncé receiving none for her album “Cowboy Carter,” which combines elements of country music with pop culture.

Beyoncé, whose country-plus-everything album “Cowboy Carter” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs list, is responsible for the global music revolution that began this year.

The album, whose cover featured Beyoncé riding a horse sidesaddle, dressed as a red, white, and blue rodeo queen, and waving an American flag, caused a stir in the media and sparked discussions about the historical significance of African Americans in country music and their ongoing battles to be accepted by the Nashville establishment.

The Beyhive are therefore shocked that Queen Bee was totally ignored by the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards in 2024.

A Beyoncé fan account swiftly expressed their dismay on X by calling out the CMA.

The exclusion, however, was not shocking. When Beyoncé sang her song “Daddy Lessons” with the Chicks (whose name was still Dixie Chicks) at the 2016 CMAs, eight years ago, she was met with disdain.

Beyoncé stated in an interview that “Cowboy Carter” was “born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed and it was very clear that I was not.”.

As a result of that encounter, I researched our extensive musical library and dug deeper into the history of country music.

She also showed that her project was more ambitious than any attempt at a country crossover.

“This ain’t a country album,” she said on social media before releasing her LP. “This is a ‘Beyoncé’ album.”

Additionally, “Cowboy Carter” had the year’s second-biggest opening and topped the chart for two weeks.

Even though the album was more successful, it had very little airplay on country radio stations—a venue where the music industry frequently expresses its opinions and preferences.

It’s possible that Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” helped Black musicians working in the country genre gain more prominence.

With two appearances on Beyoncé’s album, singer-songwriter Shaboozey may have benefited the most.

His song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has been the No. 1 country song for 12 weeks and has topped the Hot 100 chart for eight.

Shaboozey, however, got a nomination for Best New Artiste and Single of the Year at the CMAs.

The Nashville Bridgestone Arena will host the CMAs on November 20.
