On Wednesday, October 9, the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the theme of the next Met Gala and its celebrity co-chairs for the 2025 event.

The theme for the 2025 Met Gala is Superfine: Tailoring Black Style and its inspiration is from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.

The exhibition will feature garments, paintings, photographs, and more exploring the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism, from the 18th century to the present day.

It therefore makes sense that the co-chairs for the Met Gala would be an assembly of some of the most powerful and stylish Black men in Hollywood.

The co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala are named as follows: Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, and Pharrell Williams, alongside Anna Wintour. LeBron James will serve as honorary chair.

The job of these co-chairs will be to help the museum launch and exhibit the theme of black style in menswear over the centuries.

However, the precise dress code and its tailored specifications to the exhibit’s theme will be announced early next year before the Met Gala returns on May 5, 2025, in NYC.

The 2025 Gala is said to be one for the guys, and it’s the first fashion exhibit at the Met in over 20 years focused exclusively on menswear, which explains the almost all-male slate of hosts.

As for Rocky, Williams, and Hamilton, the Met Gala is nothing new, due to their regular attendance for years now.

While LeBron James will make his debut at the event in 2025, Domingo attended his first Met Gala this year.

According to the museum director and CEO Max Hollein, the exhibit will run for six months more than previous Met fashion exhibits and will explore “the importance of sartorial style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”

He also said it would celebrate “the power of style as a democratic tool for rejecting stereotypes and accessing new possibilities.

”The Met Gala red carpet is always one of the biggest pop culture spectacles of the year, with stars wearing outfits tailored to the night’s theme, and it is also a huge fundraiser. Superfine: Tailoring Black Style will be open to the public from May 10 to October 26, 2025.
