The GLAAD (The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Media Awards “recognize and honor the media for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ+ community in film, TV, music, video games, podcasts, journalism, and the issues that affect their lives.”
These awards are not only awarded to the LGBTQ+ community, but also to creative people in the industries, including film, television, video games, and music.
The 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards has announced 303 nominees across 33 categories.
These categories include culture-inclusive stories about global LGBTQ criminalization, LGBTQ asylum seekers, LGBTQ youth, and many more.
This year, the 36th annual GLAAD Media Awards is set to recognize several Black projects and talent.
These individual talents include Victoria Monét and Doechii, who both got nominated for Outstanding Music Artiste.
For Outstanding Drama Series, The Chi, which returned to Showtime for its seventh season, has been nominated.
Durand Bernarr and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez have been nominated for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artiste.
Diarra From Detroit, a breakout series about a woman who gets involved in a murder mystery surrounding a Tinder date who ghosted her, has been nominated for Outstanding New Series.
Wicked, starring London-based actress Cynthia Erivo, has been nominated for Outstanding Film.
Quinta Brunson’s Abbott Elementary received a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series.
“Baby, This is Keke Palmer,” a podcast that delves into everything, from pop culture to the meaning of life, on the platform, hosted by Keke Palmer herself, has received an Outstanding Podcast nomination.
Another recognized project is Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, an HBO documentary that also gets a nod for Outstanding Documentary.
