In line with the NAACP Image Awards, shining star Tems also added another trophy to her closet when her song Me & U was crowned Outstanding International Song.

This would be the second award this month alone for the thrilling performer after she grabbed the ‘Breakthrough’ award at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.

Tems became the first Nigerian artist to be honoured at the Billboard Women in Music event, which celebrates outstanding women who continue to inspire generations in the industry.

The NAACP Award is, however, not the first recognition for Me & U. It would be recalled that in October 2023,the song reached No. 34 on the UK singles chart and was also featured on former US President Obama’s 2023 playlist.

The latest NAACP recognition would shore up her value, as she has already been celebrated for attaining over two billion streams on Spotify and becoming the most streamed female African artiste on the platform.

Apart from Tems, other acts named at the NAACP Award were: Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album Father’s Day by Kirk Franklin; Outstanding Male Artist Good Good by Usher with 21 Savage x Summer Walker; Outstanding Female Artist The Journey by H.E.R Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song Cobra when to  Megan Thee Stallion.

Fans would be looking forward to the other talents who would be celebrated at the NAACP Awards on Saturday.

Tems rose to fame after she was featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single, Essence, which reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.

Last weekend, she appeared on stage to pick up her Billboard Women’s Award and also performed the single Not An Angel, and advised women to support one another in all circumstances.

“No matter what you’re going through, you should know you are not alone. Even when you’re sad, or angry; there is someone who is angry too…So uplift everyone around you.

“We don’t have anybody else but ourselves, it’s the women that got the women,” she stated at the ceremony, while thanking her family and everyone who supports her career.
