British-Ghanaian rapper, Stormzy, has been named as a recipient of an honorary Doctorate from Cambridge University.
He is among eight distinguished individuals listed for the recognition which will take place later this year. The official announcement came on March 19, 2025.

The honourees, according to officials, would be recognized at a special Congregation in the Senate-House on June 25, 2025.
Stormzy is being awarded in the field of Law, for his philanthropic work has impacted communities positively.

His efforts included the Stormzy Scholarship to Cambridge – an initiative that funds two Black British students to attend the University each year.
The scheme is said to have commenced in 2018 and grew in 2021 when another entity, HSBC UK, agreed to support another 10 students annually.

Records indicated that 55 students had been given the opportunity to attend Cambridge University with the tuition fees and maintenance costs covered by the initiative.
The fund is said to have led to an increase in the number of Black students applying to go to Cambridge. Through his MerkyFC brand, Stormzy has helped the community in music, sport, and literature.
Established in 2022, the project was built to address racial equity in the football industry and provide opportunities for UK Black Heritage Youth to access jobs in the sector.
Since its inception, the project has reportedly added 63 roles to the UK football industry for young people of UK Black Heritage.

Its online platform offers support to young people who already have roles in football, and helps build a wider community for those who have applied for similar roles.
In 2022, the philanthropist was honored by the University of Exeter in recognition of his “remarkable contribution to society and extraordinary talent”.

In December last year, the London rapper discussed how Beyonce’s film Homecoming impacted his stage performance positively.
The Emcee was reflecting on his 2019 Glastonbury Music Festival performance in an interview with Men’s Health UK.

His appearance at the show happened three months after Beyonce released the documentary which highlighted her performance at the 2018 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival also known as Beychella.
‘There’s a part in Beychella where she talks about her diet, and I was thinking, ‘Yeah, now I want a nutritionist… “I want to be someone who can deliver a live set for 90 minutes with full energy and not stutter on my vocal, not be out of breath, not need to take a break, just be almost like a superhuman on stage, the same as I’ve seen Beyoncé,” he stated.
