Rapper Stormzy has landed a new deal as he collaborates with a new online platform to help Black youth find football careers.
The singer would work with Adidas on the ‘Merky Football Careers’ project, which was first established in 2022.
The project, according to officials, aims to address “racial equity in the football industry and provide opportunities for UK Black Heritage Youth to access jobs in the sector.”
Since its inception, the project has reportedly added 63 roles to the UK football industry for young people of UK Black Heritage.
Its latest online platform is expected to offer support to young people who already have roles in football, and held build a wider community for those who have applied for similar roles.
According to reports, young people would be able to find and apply for roles in the football industry through Merky FC’s recruitment partner, “Diverse”. They will also receive career guidance and development, and access to networking opportunities.
Tobi Ogundipe, Founder of “Diverse” thanked Adidas and Stormzy for offering the platform the opportunity to inspire and impact the lives of young people.
“The brands involved have worked together to help us build, educate, and hire from a new community of young people who previously had no connections in football. The best part is they’re now becoming the future faces of the industry and inspiring others from the black community to apply and join the mission as well,” he stated.
Steve Marks, Senior Director of Brand Communications at Adidas, highlighted the success of the program in the past two years, adding that the next year would create more awareness and drive equity in the UK football business.
