Up-tempo rhythm, Activate, released by Ghana’s Stonebwoy and Nigeria’s Davido, has reportedly reached seven million streams on Spotify, the managers of the Afropop/Reggae Dancehall sensation announced on Wednesday.
The Afrobeats single and its official video, unlocked in December 2020, attracted lots of attention and feedback from music enthusiasts.
It was added to the tracklist on Stonebwoy’s 5th Dimension Album which premiered in April this year. The official video for the tune had recorded 11 million views on YouTube alone as of November 2, 2023.
Fans have celebrated the new milestone reached on Spotify but it is not clear if the Spotify growth rate for Activate had any connection with the trending 5th Dimension Album.
Activate also has over 18 million playbacks on Audiomack, indicating the overall appeal of the work produced by Ghanaian audio engineer, Mix Master Garzy.
The perfect collaboration led to the phenomenal acts of organizing the Activate party in Ghana in December 2020.
Stonebwoy recently wrapped up his 5th Dimension Tour which culminated in a well-publicized performance at Electric Brixton in London on October 29, 2023.
Electric Brixton was reportedly transformed into a vibrant center of culture and music as fans from all walks of life, including renowned football stars Thomas Partey and Kudus Mohammed, gathered to witness Stonebwoy’s enthralling performance.
The sold-out concert was described as a celebration of African music and a testament to the artiste’s influence on a global scale.
The Not Again composer, on the tour, performed in cities including Amsterdam, Berlin, Dusseldof, before touching down in Birmingham, Manchester and London.
Apart from the tangible statistics on Activate, the video for Stonebwoy’s Manodzi ft Angelique Kidjo also reached an impressive one million streams on YouTube barely a month after it was released.
Manodzi is part of the soothing rhythms on the 17-track 5th Dimension album.
