Many fans online were disturbed about fake news reporting the death of celebrated television personality, Steve Harvey, early this week.
The news alert was reportedly sent to mobile phones after it was created by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated content on a website.
Portions of the fake publication dated December 19 somewhat provided details about his demise, prompting some people to log on to social media to post comments and reactions.
“…did anyone else wake up to Steve Harvey’s passing news, and was it a spam or virus link,” an X (Twitter) user wrote on December 18.
A reply said: “I got that notification too, smh…I did click on it and there was no info. I looked him up and it seems, he’s alive and well. Why do people do these things?”
Following confirmation that the article was fake, some readers suggested that the comedian sue the website for posting the misleading story. The award-winning star has yet to comment on the report.
According to reports, Mr. Harvey’s most recent Instagram post was a “Family Feud” clip shared on Dec. 20. The entertainer’s verified page also shared a throwback video of him advising on “how to recover from mistakes and the power of forgiveness.”
Reports indicate there was a similar misleading report in July 2023; #RIPHarvey trended on X after a local Kentucky sports fan named Harvey Doyle lost his life.
In August of this year, the radio and television personality reacted to claims that he had accepted payments to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid.
A social media influencer named Dr. Umar Johnson reportedly made the allegations against Mr. Harvey and another personality.
However, Mr. Harvey recently set the record straight on his morning show, denying all the assertions that he was paid $10,000 for an interview.
The Family Feud host said he refuses to be bought and that his support for Ms. Harris is based on her ability to serve.
“They offer me 10K for an interview with Kamala Harris. I don’t want your money, but we can do the interview…You can’t offer Steve Harvey $10,000 to do nothing. Let me just get that out of the way.”
“I haven’t received a single dollar from anybody to do what I do, and I’m doing it gladly for free,” he stated on the show.
