Sheryl Lee Ralph is opening up about her unconventional marriage to her husband and Pennsylvania state Senator, Vincent Hughes.

The two met while she was starring in Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway just four years after her divorce from her first husband Eric Maurice, with whom she shares two adult children, Etienne and Coco.

Although little is known about the couple, Sheryl opened up about her marriage in a recent conversation published by People magazine.

While the governor and actress fell in love, the realities of their lives meant they didn’t end up living together as they arranged to see one another twice a month and haven’t looked back since.

After nearly two decades together, she explained how they each have a career of their own and an individual “light to stand in.”

In the interview, the Abbott Elementary star said she felt “fortunate” for her partnership with Hughes, noting that they “live in separate places”.

“The man that I am married to, Senator Vincent Hughes, 7th Senatorial District of [Pennsylvania]… he has his own life…I have my own life. Every two weeks we saw each other, and it has continued to work out well. When I go to see him, I love to see him. When it’s time to leave, ‘Bye-bye. See you soon.’ I’m telling you, life is good,” the 69-year-old said.

She went on to say, “He has his own life. I have my own life. He has his own real career; I have my own real career. He has his light to stand in; I have my light to stand in. He is not looking at me, thinking about status or this or that. He’s doing his thing. I get to do my thing.”

At the 2024 Out100 Event, Sheryl Lee Ralph told a media house about her plans to have a party to celebrate 20 years of love when the time comes.
