In order to help pay for the anticipated $4.4 million in renovations, Pastor Keion Henderson asked 2,100 members of his congregation to donate $2,100 each which caused controversy.
Hurricane Beryl severely damaged portions of the Lighthouse Church.
With four campuses located in the northeast, south, north, and west of Houston, the church is said to have approximately 20,000 members.
He told congregation members on Sunday, August 11, that “God gave me a vision and He said we can do it in 21 days, Within the next 21 days, I am requesting $2,100 from 2,100 individuals,” according to an Atlanta Black Star report.
Shaunie and her husband Pastor Henderson recently posted updates on social media showing the renovated building, and donations continued to come in despite the criticism.

They also made an effort to share positive messages on social media amid claims that he is a “scammer”.
She attempted to spread positivity through her social media channels and shared a quote emphasizing self-acceptance and resilience, stating: “You are not responsible for anyone’s distorted perception of you. Stand firm in your own truth and light.”
Her statement demonstrates her dedication to upholding her good reputation in the face of turmoil.
Shaunie Henderson is reported to be worth $35 million, while Pastor Keion is worth $8 million.
Some social media users claimed that Shaunie should have used her ex-husband Shaquille O’Neal’s fortune instead of asking the church.
This isn’t the first time Pastor Keion has made news. He gained notoriety in April after it was claimed that he urged a choir member to stop crying during a church session.
On the Tamron Hall Show, Henderson defended himself by saying he was attempting to establish order “so people could hear God.”
“People need to realize that noise in the church does not always indicate worship. Thus, order is necessary,” he clarified.
