The 2024 edition of the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival is underway in California with a mixed bag of exciting activities and performances.

The event saw performances from many artistes, including Shakira, who reportedly made a surprise appearance at the show, which took off from April 12–14 at the Empire Polo Club.

She mounted the stage during a performance by Argentine DJ, Bizarrap, at the Sahara stage on April 12. They both turned up the show with their lively act before Shakira took the opportunity to announce her ‘La Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ World Tour.

The tour is in line with Shakira’s new album, La Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry) which premiered on March 22, this year.  The 16-track album has attracted positive reviews since it touched down.

Shakira said the tour will begin with a show in California in November 2024. The singer is, however, yet to confirm all venues and dates for the entire tour. She thanked her fans at the Coachella grounds before making the announcement.

“Thank you for inviting me, Bizarrap. To be honest, it is amazing to be here with this crowd and with you, who’s my friend and colleague. Today, I cannot contain myself, I have to tell you something…“Biza, I am going on tour.

“I am finally going on tour! Starting here this November, this year in this city. I can’t wait. I couldn’t ask for more. Thank you,” she said.

Shakira has had a successful music career, selling millions of records worldwide, and continues to inspire many young music talents while pushing Latin music worldwide.

Her 2024 album is purely Spanish, although previous records have had at least one English song. Early in January this year, the celebrated female act said she was ‘rebuilding’ herself while composing the new album.

“While writing each song, I was rebuilding myself. “While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength,” she wrote on X (formally Twitter.)
