Divorce rumors surrounding Serena Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian have intensified after the couple exchanged a wedding anniversary message, which followers think leaves much to be desired.
Saturday, November 17, marked seven years of their marriage, and they both took to Instagram to exchange kind words with each other.
Serena wrote: “7 years has gone so fast… Happy anniversary, [Alexis Ohanian] thank you for being the best dad to our girls, Olympia Ohanian and Adira Ohanian…Thanks for also making an average November day a costume party and making it special,” adding a few pictures of her husband.
Alexis also shared a family portrait and added, “7 years ago today, we got married here. Now we get to bring these two for beignets. Happy Anniversary…Thanks for giving me the two greatest humans we’ve ever met. You’re an amazing mama. I’m very lucky to have met you,” he said, tagging Williams and the children.
These messages were, however, not attractive to some followers who observed how the couple focused their anniversary messages on their children instead of displaying public affection.
“Hope everything is still going strong with you all! Staying together for the kids is commendable regardless,” a user wrote. “Agreed, nothing about love. only compliments on parenting,” another added.
Another follower asked, “Nothing about you guys being happy to be married to each other?” All of these were to suggest that there was some sort of uneasy calm between the couple.
In October this year, Serena made a post about someone “stealing her joy”, which later sparked divorce rumors among some of her fans.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this (maybe no one), but if someone, even someone close to you is robbing you of your joy, it’s ok to walk away,” William’s post read.
Many X users reacted with mixed opinions, saying it was appropriate to divorce, but others held divergent views.
“If that someone close to you is your spouse, you try to work it out rather than walk away because there’s no such thing as a perfect marriage,” one user replied.
Another person responded: “If your own spouse is robbing you of your joy, then what is there to work out? That’s not an imperfect marriage; that’s hell….” You are not in that situation, are you? We cannot deal with bad news at the moment,” another added.
Serena Williams did not confirm that the person “robbing” her “joy” was her husband, Ohanian. However, some observers believe she could still walk out of the marriage if things were not right.
