ScHoolboy Q addressed the ongoing speculation about the long gaps between album releases from Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) artists in a recent episode of the 4HUNNID Podcast.

The rapper dismissed the notion that TDE founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith is the reason behind the delays.

ScHoolboy Q expressed his frustration with the accusations leveled against Tiffith. He asserted that the artists themselves, including Kendrick Lamar and SZA, are responsible for the timing of their releases.

He argued that it would not be in Tiffith’s interest to limit the output of his top artists. The rapper suggested that the common thread among TDE artists is not Tiffith’s management but their perfectionist tendencies.

He humorously referred to this shared trait as a “mental illness,” implying that their high standards and meticulousness contribute to the lengthy intervals between albums.

ScHoolboy Q also touched on another topic that has been a subject of speculation among fans: the rumored Black Hippy album.

Black Hippy is a supergroup consisting of ScHoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul. Despite the anticipation, ScHoolboy Q was clear, stating he has no plans to work on a Black Hippy project. He explained that each group member is currently focused on their paths. With Lamar working on pgLang, his efforts in nurturing a new artist, and both Ab-Soul and Jay Rock busy with their work, he doesn’t foresee a time when they could come together for the album. The last time the quartet collaborated on a track was in 2015, with the song “Vice City.” ScHoolboy Q acknowledged that scheduling conflicts have been a significant obstacle in bringing the album to fruition. Despite the challenges, he expressed willingness to work on the project if the opportunity arises.
