Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, have also explained what has been keeping their marriage together for the past decades.
They have been married for 44 years, and, despite their imperfections, Mr. Jackson attributes their enduring partnership particularly to tolerance for one another.
“A lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up. I’ve done s— in my marriage that’s crazy, you know?
“She has, too, in her head, or whatever in reality, but you got to [ask], ‘Is that a breakup offense? Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it?” Mr Jackson stated in an interview with AARP magazine.
He also believes in accepting a partner for whom he/she plays a significant role in a lasting union.
“…There are certain things that you learn to ignore about people — that she’s learned to ignore about me. And one of the things she had to accept is that I’m going to go to work. I’m going to go to work all the time until, you know, it’s time,” he added.
Mr. Jackson has been cast in over 120 movies ranging from animated and Parental Guidance (PG) movies to sci-fi Marvel films and action-packed pictures.
In 2000, he earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was once named the most influential actor of all time in a 2018 study.
The actor reportedly fought drug addiction in the early days of his career but credits his wife for saving him. The Incredibles actor had previously stated in an interview that his wife could have afforded to leave him in his turbulent moment, but she did not abandon or move out of the marriage with his daughter, Zoe Jackson.
He had recalled one of the old days when his wife and daughter found him passed out on the kitchen floor after cooking cocaine on the stove. “I never got to smoke and the next day I was in rehab,” and “I didn’t go kicking and screaming…I was tired.” Talking about his wife in that interview, he said: “I credit her [LaTanya] because she could’ve just taken Zoe and walked out and been done with me. But she didn’t. That’s a greater love than I will ever know.”
