Sam Smith has opened up about a skiing accident that left him immobilized for a month.
Speaking in a recent podcast called the ‘Sidetracked’, he recalled being involved in “a freak skiing mishap” which left him injured in a part of his leg.
“I completely ripped my ACL (anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)…I was skiing. I was an idiot and went on a black slope on the second day…I got taken down in a blood bag. It was the worst,” the singer explained.
The Gloria composer noted how the after-effect became a permanent issue when it came to mobility.
“I decided to go down the non-surgical route, but I couldn’t walk for a month on this leg and it was awful, it was the first time I’d ever not been able to move,” he stated.
The Stay With Me singer added that the injury made him prioritize his health and wellbeing “more than ever before.”
The discussion about his injury comes after Smith revealed that he has re-recorded Stay With Me to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
In an email note to his fans early this month, he said he had edited portions of the song and asked fans to download the updated version.
“This song is truly so special to me, so for the 10th anniversary, I re-recorded the track, which will be available on all platforms and physical…It’s beautiful to know that sometimes, we can change the past,” he wrote in the mail.
Sources close to Sam said he had constantly edited the lyrics of the song at live performances; therefore, the official update announced recently was not entirely surprising.
In the mail, Sam Smith also reflected on the writing and recording process of Stay With Me, thanking his collaborators for “helping express complicated feelings through music.”
“When [we] wrote this song, none of us would’ve expected it to become what it has in the world…The chords and this song still stir me in the same way to this day. I’ve never once got sick of singing it,” the email note said.
