To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the award-winning English girl group Spice Girls, the United Kingdom Royal Mail will, starting next week, unveil a collection of 15 new postage stamps in honour of the Viva Forever hitmakers.
The stamps are expected to showcase highlights of the 30-year career journey of the Wannabe hitmakers.
Royal Mail has devoted an entire stamp issue to a female musical trio for the first time. It is also the sixth special stamp issue featuring a music group, after the Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, the Rolling Stones in 2022, and Iron Maiden in 2023.
The main set of ten stamps features iconic pictures of the group and individual live performances from 1997 to 2012, including the Spice Girls performing at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Geri Halliwell performing at the BRIT Awards in 1997, and Victoria Beckham performing at Madison Square Garden during the Return of the Spice Girls Tour in 2008.
A sheet of five stamps showcasing individual photographs of the singers from their Spice World photoshoot is also included in the collection.
“We are so excited to be celebrated by Royal Mail, alongside some of the most iconic and influential music legends. When we formed the Spice Girls, we couldn’t have dreamt that 30 years later we would be the first female group to dedicate an entire stamp collection; that’s Girl Power!,” Spice Girl said in a statement.
Spice Girls, made up of Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, and Emma Bunton, was formed in 1994 and became the biggest girl group of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide. Their debut single, Wannabe dropped in 1996 and they went on to release three hit albums and the 1997 film Spice World. The group last reunited in 2019 for a reunion tour that travelled throughout the U.K., with all but Victoria Beckham on board.
The stamps are now available for pre-order and will be officially released on January 11. Along with the stamps, fans may acquire limited edition stamp booklets, framed collectors sheets, and collectible envelopes.
