Rihanna’s fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from the pop icon for years. Now, it seems their patience might finally be rewarded.
A recent interaction involving A$AP Rocky, Rihanna’s longtime partner, has sparked hope that the singer’s extended hiatus from music might be coming to an end.
On Saturday, February 17, a video was shared on a Rihanna fan page on X (formerly Twitter). The video shows Rocky posing for a selfie with a fan in Paris. Towards the end of the video, someone is heard asking him to tell Rihanna that her fans are ready for a new album. Rocky’s response was:
“She’s working on it.”
No album since 2016
If Rihanna is indeed working on a new album, it would be her first full-length release since her 2016 project Anti. This album was not only critically acclaimed but also broke records. In June last year, it was certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
As of January, Anti had made history by becoming the first album by a Black female artist to spend 400 weeks (over seven years) on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It is also the fourth longest charting album by a woman in the chart’s history.
Rihanna’s potential return to music is exciting news for her fans who have been longing for new material. While there is no official confirmation from Rihanna herself yet, the hint dropped by A$AP Rocky has certainly given fans a beacon of hope.
Rihanna gushes over A$AP Rocky’s fatherhood skills
Meanwhile, Rihanna, who has spent her time away from music to give birth to children, recently praised A$AP Rocky’s parenting skills. She called his devotion to their two young sons a major “turn-on.”
In an interview, the singer gushed over her partner’s “great” and “patient” approach to fatherhood with sons RZA and Riot.
“I loved him differently as a dad,” Rihanna declared. “What a leader, what a great, patient, loving [dad],” she said.
