Rick Ross is facing legal trouble after his recent car show left at least one attendee deeply dissatisfied.
On Friday, August 9, reports emerged that Ross is being sued by a man named Darris Straughter, who claims that the rapper and his team failed to accommodate his needs at the event.
Straughter, who uses a wheelchair, alleges that Ross’s staff assured him multiple times that a wheelchair-accessible shuttle bus would be available to transport him to the car show. However, when the day of the event arrived, Straughter says the promised shuttle never showed up, leaving him stranded and unable to attend the highly anticipated gathering.
According to the lawsuit, Straughter had gone to great lengths to be part of the event. He reportedly purchased a ticket, paid for lodging and travel, and even sold his car to afford the trip to Rick Ross’s third annual car show, held on June 1 at the rapper’s sprawling Promise Land estate in Fayetteville, Georgia. Now, Straughter is suing for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
As news of the lawsuit broke, Ross was reportedly enjoying his evening in Monte Carlo, seemingly unaware of the legal storm brewing back home. The rapper has yet to respond to the allegations.
The car show, which has become an annual tradition for Ross, was heavily promoted in the days leading up to the event. On May 25, the rapper took to social media to unveil a 37-carat VVS diamond car key valued at $130,000, which he planned to award to one lucky attendee. The flashy prize was just one of the many attractions that drew car enthusiasts from all over to the Promise Land estate.
This isn’t the first time Rick Ross has offered lavish rewards at his car shows. Last year, he spent around $300,000 on jewelry for the winners, with pieces inspired by luxury cars like Rolls-Royce.
