Afrobeats superstar Rema would headline Japan’s biggest Afrobeats festival, Afro Jam, scheduled to take place at the Okinawa Arena in July 2025.

He would mount the stage alongside other top stars, Jason Derulo and Jamaican songstress, Shenseea.

The week-long celebration also features events at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza, Tokyo.

In a short promo for the event, Jason Derulo expressed excitement about returning to perform in Japan and urged fans to grab tickets on time.

The show, according to organizers, is being held on the back of the global impact of Afrobeats, which has caught up with the Japanese also.

Early this month, Rema made it to the list of top albums, released by Rolling Stone Magazine.

His second Rolling studio album, Heis, secured the 11th spot on the list of top albums and was described as a “unique, buzzy, and visceral” project.

Shenseea, on the other hand, unveiled her second studio album on May 24, 2024, with a host of artistes including Afrobeats powerhouse Wizkid.

The multi-talented artiste posted the tracklist and official cover of the 14-track project titled Never Gets Late Here, which attracted lots of reactions from her fans.

In March 2022, Shenseea released her debut album titled Alpha, under the record label Rich Immigrants, Interscope.

The production had guest appearances including Tyga, Offset, Sean Paul, and Beenie Man, and reached No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, in addition to other recognitions.

In 2023, she won the NAACP Image Award for ‘Outstanding International Song’ for featuring on the single Diana, composed by Fireboy DML ft. Chris Brown.

In July this year, Jason Derulo recounted one of the “scariest moments” of his life when he broke his neck at a rehearsal.

In a chat on the I Am Paris podcast, the Trumpet hitmaker said he thought the accident, which occurred at a 2013 tour rehearsal, might be “the end of it all.”

He explained that he was working with a trainer, at the time, to prepare for his world tour when things went south.

In February this year, he premiered his Nu King album and continued to hold a series of music concerts dubbed the NuKing World Tour to support the project.
