The year is ending well for the ‘Prince of Afrobeats’, Rema, as he moves from winning awards to recently signing a new ambassadorial deal.
At 23, the singer-songwriter updated fans on Friday about his latest contract with the modern sneaker and clothing brand, Jordan. He has not disclosed details of the signing, but some reports suggest the deal is worth $20 million.
Rema, who described the latest development as an “irony” on his X (Twitter) page, has since received congratulatory messages from followers who say greatness has no age limit.
The showstopper early this week entertained top footballers at the Ballon d’Or held in Paris, performing his chart-topping single Calm Down.
He was on top of his craft on the stage, making him the first Afrobeats star to perform at the ceremony.
The remarkable performance was applauded by guests as he exchanged handshakes with top football celebrities on the front row, including French international Killian Mbappe.
Rema, born Divine Ikubor, was also adjudged the Best Global African Artiste at the Trace Music Awards held in Kigali, Rwanda, in October.
His Ravage Extended Play (EP), which has songs including Smooth Criminal, Trouble Maker, and Red Portion, has been making waves since October 27, 2023.
The shining star was again listed among the finalists for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, which comes off November 19, 2023.
He is in the same category as Ayra Starr (Rush); People by Cameronian-American singer Labianca; Ku Lo Sa by Oxlade ft Camila Cabello.
Calm Down and its follow-up remix with Selena Gomez have been well-rated, garnering millions of streams across platforms. The song reached No.3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this year.
