Megastars pushing the Afrobeats brand, Burna Boy, Rema, and Asake, have been named in the International Artiste of the Year category at this year’s BRIT Awards.

The list also includes influential Tyla and British rapper Stomzy, as voting opens later on the BRITs Instagram page, ahead of the ceremony scheduled for March 2, 2024, at the O2 arena in London.

Voting via Instagram begins on Thursday, February 1, 2024, and closes on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

BRIT Awards are the annual recognition of popular music, organised by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The organisers say the winners of this year’s awards will each receive an award designed by visual artist and painter Rachel Jones.

This year, the awards committee said that the number of nominations for Artiste of the Year and the International Artist categories increased from five to ten, with more than half of all the nominees being females.

The English singer and songwriter, RAYE, is the most-nominated female, appearing in seven different categories. She has been nominated for Artist of the Year, Mastercard Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Pop Act, and R&B Act, and two other nominations in the Song of the Year category.

Categories such as R&B Acts, Alternative/Rock Acts, Dance Acts, Pop Acts, and Hip Hop/Grime/Rap Acts, have all been well represented.

Good We’re singer, Dua Lipa, was also nominated in the Artist of the Year, Pop Act, and Song of the Year categories, in addition to a host of other top performers in other categories.

The BRIT Awards will happen nearly a month after the 66th Grammys, in which Burna Boy, Asake, and Tyla compete for glory.

Other artists nominated for a 2024 BRIT award include Becky Hill, Billie Eilish, CASISDEAD, Charli XCX, Doja Cat, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Lewis Capaldi, Noah Kahan, Paramore, Peggy Gou, Rema, Stormzy, Tate McRae and Tyla.
