Award-winning British singer and songwriter, Raye, is out with a new single titled Genesis, which she is “so proud of”.
The singer is said to have performed a live version of the song at a special pop-up exhibition in New York City early this week, before releasing the studio version of the seven-minute song on Friday, June 7, 2024.
Referring to her favorite quote, she said the best way to “reflect on the times” was through her art and music,” she said in a statement following the release.
“…There is so much darkness and pain in this world we live in, and I wanted to create something both as deeply personal and as raw as I could find myself to be about my own mind and the world I see around me.
“The song is a seven-minute piece that I have crafted and scrutinized over the last year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions, beneath all the layers and the lyrics, the underlying message is ‘Let There Be Light,’ she noted.
The talented composer again added that Genesis was also “a prayer and a plea and a cry for help.”…“I really hope this song will be able to bring some hope, the way this music does for me, to those who need it most,” she was quoted saying.
The songstress holds several records to her credit, including the 2019, singles Love Me Again, and others like Please Don’t Touch and two David Guetta collaborations, Stay (Don’t Go Away) and Make It to Heaven.
Her debut album, My 21st Century Blues, which won Album of the Year at the Brit Awards, had made a significant impact reaching the No. 2 spot on the UK albums chart after it was released.
Raye grabbed six prizes out of seven nominations at the 2024 Brit Awards in London. She was decorated with Songwriter of the Year and again emerged victorious in several other categories.
She took home trophies for Album of the Year; Artist of the Year; New Artist of the Year; Song of the Year, and R&B Act of the Year, making history as the only singer to have attained such a milestone at a single ceremony.
“The artist I was three years ago would not believe I’m in control – I’m my own boss,” Raye reportedly said while claiming her award. She performed at the ceremony with a line-up of several artists, including Calm Down hitmaker Rema, who was making his first appearance at the ceremony as an African act.
“I am so grateful to be recognised as a songwriter, as this is a craft I am so passionate about and have been since I started my journey as a musician, and I’m very grateful to those who voted for me to have this award,” Songwriter of the Year stated.
