Rapper 6ix9ine, famous for his colorful persona and tumultuous legal history, has been taken back into custody for allegedly violating the terms of his federal plea agreement.
The Brooklyn native, who made waves as a cooperating witness in a high-profile racketeering case, now finds himself behind bars once again after facing new accusations in a federal courtroom.
Federal records show that 6ix9ine was apprehended early Tuesday morning, October 29, and quickly brought before a judge.
The rapper is accused of three major breaches of his supervised release conditions: traveling to Las Vegas without prior authorization, evading mandatory drug screenings, and failing a drug test after testing positive for methamphetamine.
Representatives for 6ix9ine, including his attorney, have attempted to clarify the situation. According to his legal team, the trip to Las Vegas was work-related, as 6ix9ine was set to perform, and his lawyer claims he believed the necessary authorities had been notified.
For now, U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer has ordered that 6ix9ine remain in custody until at least November 12, when a follow-up hearing will address these allegations in greater detail. Until then, the rapper will be held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, a high-security facility currently housing other high-profile inmates, including music mogul Diddy.
In an unexpected twist, Anthony “Harv” Ellison, the man convicted of kidnapping and robbing 6ix9ine in 2018, is also scheduled to appear in federal court on the same day. Ellison, who was sentenced to 24 years in prison, now faces additional legal issues stemming from accusations of contraband smuggling while incarcerated.
6ix9ine’s inks $6m deal to make Mexican album
This latest controversy for 6ix9ine comes mere weeks after he inked a lucrative $6 million deal with Kartel Music Group.
The deal reportedly requires him to release a new album and tour with Mexican and Latin American artists, earning him up to $250,000 per show. However, the agreement also comes with strict conditions: the rapper must steer clear of any legal trouble or public feuds.
