The premiere of Keke Palmer and SZA’s comedy, One of them Days, has been canceled due to fires in Los Angeles.
Events such as the Oscar nominations and the Critics Choice Awards were also supposed to be held and announced this Sunday.
While others postponed their scheduled events, a slew of events have been canceled due to the wildfires.
The premieres for Wolf Man, Amazon MGM Studios’ Unstoppable, and Paramount’s Better Man have been canceled with new dates yet to be announced.
It is not surprising therefore that Sony won’t be holding the January 13th Hollywood premiere for its upcoming Keke Palmer and SZA R-rated comedy One of Them Days.
One of Them Days was written by Syreeta Singleton. It is executive produced by Keke Palmer, Sharon Palmer, Jeff Valeri, and Charles D. King and produced by Issa Rae, Deniese Davis, Sara Rastogi, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks.
The R-rated comedy movie was directed by Lawrence Lamont.
it is about the lives of best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA), who are about to have “one of them days.”.
The movie is centered around when the duo discovers Alyssa’s boyfriend (Joshua David Neal) has spent money meant for their rent; the two friends then find themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and to also keep their friendship intact.
According to Deadline, Sony studio intends to move the date to the 4-day MLK weekend, which will result in One of Them Days facing off against Universal/Blumhouse’s Wolfman and Paramount’s expansion of the September 5 movie.
The intended date is to target college students, as 95% of colleges will be on break that weekend.
It is notable to mention that there haven’t been any comedies on the schedule for quite some time for Sony studio, and the studio has been trying to resuscitate pure R-rated comedies at the box office in recent years; a once lucrative cinema genre that has jettisoned to streaming.
The last Sony Pictures R-rated comedy was in the summer of 2023, which was Jennifer Lawrence’s comedy, No Hard Feelings, which opened to $15M and legged out to $50M at the domestic box office.
