In yet another achievement, Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us has been crowned Apple Music of the year 2024. The company released its end-of-year chart on Tuesday, December. 3.
The widely streamed hit song, which emerged from the lyrical salvo between Kendrick and Drake early this year, topped the Apple Music list with other songs following the sequence.
Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, took second place, while Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso and Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy), placed third and fourth positions, respectively. In the fifth position was Taylor Swift’s Cruel Summer.
Not Like Us became Kendrick Lamar’s fourth No. 1 song and went ahead to break the Spotify record as the most streamed hip-hop song in one day.
About a week ago, sources close to Kendrick Lamar said he has lined up several artists, including Taylor Swift, for his next album.
Lamar contributed to the remix of Taylor Swift’s hit track Bad Blood in 2014, which became a reference point in his feud with Drake.
Kendrick Lamar recently grabbed eight of eleven nominations at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, taking home accolades for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, and others.
In October, Rihanna endorsed Kendrick Lamar for the Super Bowl Halftime performance, saying she had no reservations about his selection as the headline artiste.
Appearing on the Entertainment Tonight show to discuss a wide range of issues, she said the Not Like Us hitmaker deserved the nomination and looked forward to his exciting performance next year.
“…It’s a diamond on a ring finger, honey, it’s meant to be. It’s Kendrick Lamar. He deserves it. I cannot wait to see it…
“Kendrick is the one that’s supposed to do it right now. We should never doubt him. He’s an amazing artist, top tier…He actually brought so many people together; that’s what culture is, the Umbrella singer noted”
Top performer Snoop Dogg also expressed his thoughts on the battle between the two musicians, indicating that the battle for supremacy brought some unity among other players in the music industry, though he did not support either of the two musicians during the banter.
“…So, it may have been disrespectful, but it’s hip hop, so it’s part of hip hop…I chose no sides because I have no individual cause. That’s a grown man going against a grown man.
“But what it did do was unite the West and make everybody out here start looking at each other like how much love we got for each other,” Snoop Dogg stated when he appeared on the Drink Champs podcast.
