American actor, producer, and former NFL football player, Nnamdi Asomugha, was born in Lafayette, Louisiana and raised in Los Angeles, California by Nigerian parents.

Nnamdi embarked on his acting career, making his professional debut in 2008 on the CW Network sitcom The Game.

Since then, he has also served as a producer on many recent high-profile releases, including Crown Heights, Sylvie’s Love, and Nanny.

Nnamdi Asomugha is married to Kerry Washington, and despite their high-profile careers, Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha keep their relationship out of the spotlight.

Nnamdi and Kerry have two kids together, but they are also raising a child from Nnamdi’s previous relationship.

However, the low-key pair has only publicly stepped out together a handful of times, which has made some Netizens curious about who he really is.

We have therefore put together some facts about the man who stole the heart of the iron lady, Olivia Hope.

A former NFL player

Over the course of his remarkable NFL career, which lasted more than ten years, Nnamdi Asomugha played for three different teams.

After playing college ball for the California Golden Bears, the cornerback was picked by the Oakland Raiders.

He was later listed as one of the all-time great Oakland Raiders in August 2009 by the Oakland Tribune.

Nnamdi Asomugha continued to accumulate accolades, being selected to the First Team All-Pro three times and winning the Pro Bowl three times.

Asomugha, a sought-after free agent heading into the 2011 season, inked a $60 million, five-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

He signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, his final stop, after finishing the season with 40 total tackles, 5 passes defended, and 3 interceptions.

He married Washington in 2013.

In June 2013, Asomugha and Washington tied the knot in a private outdoor ceremony in Idaho.

The duo kept the invite list small. “It was small, just family and close friends,” the source said.

“They said their own vows, and people stayed at the house. It was really simple and sweet.”

Nnamdi and Kerry secretly tied the knot in 2013 at a ceremony in Hailey, Idaho.

Kerry’s parents, Earl and Valeria Washington, acted as witnesses.

Founder of Asomugha Foundation: He’s a philanthropist.

Asomugha has found time for charity pursuits while pursuing his career in football and the arts.

He established the Asomugha Foundation in 2010 to give needed supplies, shelter, and scholarships to impoverished widows and orphans in Nigeria.

Additionally, he founded ACTS (Asomugha College Tour for Scholars), a mentorship program that allows exceptional kids from underprivileged communities to tour colleges around the country.

He received multiple honors for his charitable efforts, including the President’s Volunteer Service Award, the Jefferson Award for Public Service, and the NFL Players Association’s Man of the Year Award.

He’s an actor and film producer.

Nnamdi, in an interview a while ago with Wealthsimple Magazine, stated that:

“It was a clear message that, as a player, you’re not really in control of your destiny.”

Which showed that even at an early stage of his NFL career, football wouldn’t be his long-term plan.

He went on to say, “Something clicked, and I was like, ‘I gotta be prepared.

This could end at any time. ‘That was my second year in the league.”

However, he had been fortunate to have his post-NFL career modified by director Peter Berg and a Nike commercial.

He was offered a small cameo on Berg’s hit series, Friday Night Lights.

And he executive produced Beasts of No Nation, which was shot in Ghana, barely months after he retired.

Since then, he has produced movies like Patti Cake$ and Harriet in addition to acting in movies like Crown Heights and Sylvie’s Love.

Stays Out of the Spotlight

Nnamdi and his wife, Washington, rarely share details about their relationship or family life.

As an Instagram user herself, Washington, when it comes to posting family on social media, shared in her March 2020 InStyle cover story that it’s hard not to share her children’s achievements and milestones.

“I have moments where I take pictures or videos of one of my three amazing kids and I want to post them online, and I tend to just send them to my parents or my sister instead.”

As a result, internet users know nothing about Kerry Washington’s Nigerian husband, Nnamdi.
