Oluseye Desmond Sodamola would go down in history as the first Afrobeat DJ to grace the Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival.
The Disc Jockey, the most internationally recognized Nigerian DJ in the Afrobeat genre and renowned as SPINALL, will proudly introduce Coachella to an Afrobeats vibe.
For DJs, producers, and musicians from Nigeria and Africa in general, this enormous announcement represents a critical turning point. DJ Spinall will be in charge of the Sahara Tent at Coachella, where Afrobeats will be the main event. This stage is intended to push the limits of high-energy music and investigate the nexus between technology and art.
For Afrobeats, this is a historic time. Coachella and other events offer a platform to celebrate our growth and inspire us to continue showcasing our art and culture to the world as our unique genre continues to captivate audiences around the globe.
This follows Nigeria’s impressive contributions to the international music scene, which saw Spinall playing an instrumental role in bringing Afrobeats to a wider audience.
As the first Nigerian and Afrobeats DJ to be included in Mixmag, the prestigious British electronic dance and clubbing magazine’s list of the top 25 DJs who defined 2023.
Spinall’s thrilling performances will be seen at the festival throughout two weekends, on Saturdays, April 13 and 20.
Moreover, he is the first Nigerian to ever enthrall the crowd at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom, following in the footsteps of Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, who cleared the path for other Nigerian musicians such as Wizkid and Burna Boy.
