Kenneth Petty, the husband of superstar rapper Nicki Minaj, is facing significant backlash after using an offensive slur during a livestream.
The livestream, which featured the couple discussing their detractors, quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons. While Nicki encouraged her fans to remain joyful and ignore negativity, Petty’s choice of words deeply upset many of her followers.
During the conversation, Nicki advised her fans to protect their happiness and not let anyone take away their joy. However, the moment took a sharp turn when Petty interjected with a derogatory comment that shocked viewers. The slur he used was directed at those he referred to as ‘haters,’ but the offensive language did not sit well with a large portion of the audience.
The livestream clip circulated rapidly across social media, particularly on X (formerly known as Twitter), where fans expressed their disappointment and anger. Many pointed out that Nicki Minaj, who has long been viewed as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, allowed her husband to use such harmful language without objection. This sparked a debate among her fanbase, with some questioning her commitment to LGBTQIA+ rights.
The incident is not the first time Nicki has faced criticism over issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community. In 2022, she was under fire for participating in the World Cup anthem ‘Tukoh Taka,’ a collaboration with Maluma and Myriam Fares. The controversy arose due to the host country Qatar’s harsh anti-LGBTQIA+ stance. Despite the backlash, Nicki proceeded with the project, becoming the first female rapper to appear on a World Cup anthem.
Many fans who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community feel increasingly disillusioned with Nicki’s actions and associations. They voiced their concerns online, noting that her support for LGBTQIA+ rights appears inconsistent when compared to her professional choices and personal associations.
