Nicki Minaj has successfully avoided taking the stand in a deposition related to the tragic hit-and-run incident that killed her father, Robert Maraj.

In Touch Weekly exclusively reported on Monday, June 24, that a New York judge denied Charles Polevich’s attempt to question the rap superstar under oath about her childhood and lyrics.

The case stems from a lawsuit filed by Nicki Minaj’s mother, Carol Maraj, against Polevich over the February 2021 incident that resulted in Robert Maraj’s death. Polevich, who was driving the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run, had requested the court’s permission in April to depose the artist, claiming that her statements about her childhood and allegations of domestic abuse by her father were relevant to the case.

A motion filed by Polevich’s lawyer revealed that Carol Maraj had already undergone deposition over two days, the most recent being on December 15, 2023.

The deposition involved discussions on the topic of domestic abuse, with Carol acknowledging statements made about it but failing to provide substantial responses regarding their truthfulness.

The rapper‘s father’s life was cut short when he was struck by a vehicle on Long Island on February 12, 2021. When the incident occurred, the 64-year-old was walking northbound between Roslyn Road and Raff Avenue. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, Polevich fled the scene but surrendered to Nassau County Police three days later after authorities discovered the car with an altered appearance. Polevich was later sentenced to one year in prison by Judge Howard Sturiun in Nassau County, New York.

The 72-year-old had pled guilty to two felonies: leaving the scene of an incident without reporting it and tampering with physical evidence. In addition to the prison sentence, he faced a six-month license suspension and a $5,000 fine. Initially, Polevich faced up to seven years in jail, but the judge adhered to his promise of a one-year sentence.
