Patti LaBelle is well-known in the media for two things: her cooking and her singing.
When it comes to cooking, she is known for going all out in the kitchen, but not everyone is thrilled about her cooking, as this article describes.
Recently, New York Post gossip reporter Cindy Adams wrote about an interaction she had with the dramatic soprano in honor of Patti LaBelle’s 80th birthday.
Adams claimed that LaBelle’s cuisine smelled bad and filled the hotel with a stench.
Adams described the atmosphere as “the whole floor of this high-class hotel having the aroma of a White Tower,” alluding to a chain of inexpensive burger eateries that was a spoof of White Castle.
She wrote, “From the elevator, her fourth-floor smelled,” recalling an old interview she did for the Post.
“You might have smelled the overpowering odor of liver and onions throughout the entire floor in Colorado.”
Adams, however, did not disclose the date of the interview but claimed she observed certain aspects of LaBelle, stating that “she lived well” and that she had 3,000 pairs of six-inch heels.
Aside from the aroma of what she assumed to be uncomfortable cuisine, the Lady Marmalade singer’s pleasantries were the first thing that attracted her attention.
“Room service is basic. Not like home cooking. I am a picky eater who dislikes throwing money around. I enjoy seeing my meals. Room service charges $100 for a disgusting hamburger. Patti LaBelle does not eat sh*t! “On the road, I cook for myself,” the singer recounted.
She claims the On My Own singer noted, “I travel with one whole suitcase; that’s my kitchen. Pots, pans, spices, utensils, a hotplate, an electric fry pan, a two-burner stove—everything. Last night, I cooked shrimp and rice. I prepared fries, burgers, and onion rings for Wyclef Jean about 3 a.m.
Focusing on the singer’s ability to cook wherever she goes without hesitation, she mentioned that LaBelle has prepared veal backstage and reputedly had a piece of chicken lodged in her teeth moments before taking the stage.
“Girl, on the road, I cook my buttocks off,” she reported LaBelle as saying. “Listen, I cook better than I sing.”
This is not the first time Adams has mentioned her encounter with the singer.
